Floorplan, an open-source plugin by developer Hayden Smith, asks Claude Code or Codex to draw an interactive, plain-English map of your app: what the main parts are, which files belong to each, and how they connect. It was the ninth-ranked repo on a daily GitHub trending tracker for November 2, listed with 1,932 stars, and SkillsLLM's directory, which first listed it on October 28, showed it above 2,200 stars shortly after. That growth has come in days.
Why it matters: coding agents now write a lot of code that the people shipping it have never read line by line. Inheriting a repo, onboarding to a team, or auditing what an agent built last week all start with the same question — "what is actually in here?" Floorplan answers it with a picture you can click through instead of a wall of file trees.
How it works
Floorplan splits the job between ordinary scripts and the model, according to the project's documentation:
- Local scan. Plain Node scripts with zero dependencies read the codebase and collect files, imports, routes and web requests.
- Model labels. Claude or Codex does what the scripts can't: it names the app's parts and writes a short description of each file.
- Static output. Everything is built into
floorplan/index.html, which opens in your browser.
The project lists support for TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Kotlin and Scala, plus endpoint and screen detection for a range of backend and frontend frameworks.
What you get
| View | What it does |
|---|---|
| Map | Clickable diagram of the app's parts and the files in each |
| Ask bar | Ask questions about the code; answered through your own Claude Code or Codex account |
| Health check | Flags common security issues such as exposed keys and open database tables — it shows where a secret is, not its value |
| Recent work | Highlights what changed since the last run |
| Flows and export | Guided walkthroughs and HTML export |
Saying "Update the floorplan" re-reads only changed files. For a project that isn't built yet, you can hand it a PRD or spec and it produces a "blueprint" marked as a plan.
Install
Requirements: Node.js 18 or later.
Claude Code:
claude plugin marketplace add haydenschmitty/floorplan
claude plugin install floorplan@floorplan
Codex:
codex plugin marketplace add haydenschmitty/floorplan
codex plugin add floorplan@floorplan
Then ask "Make me a floorplan of this app" (in Codex you can also type $floorplan). The output folder is git-ignored by default, and in Claude Code the optional notes it writes go to CLAUDE.local.md, which isn't committed either.
Privacy and caveats
The project says the scan, the map and its local server run on your machine, and the server accepts only local connections. It states there is no analytics or tracking; the only outbound data it mentions is an optional email for a Floorplan Cloud waitlist. But the descriptions and Ask-bar answers come from your model provider, which means the AI reads your code — the same exposure you already accept by using Claude Code or Codex on that repo.
SkillsLLM's automated scan (npm and pip audits plus prompt-injection checks) passed on October 29, though the site stresses that's not a certification. The project is young — its version badge is in the 0.6 range — so expect rough edges on large or unusual repos.
Who should try it
Anyone picking up an unfamiliar codebase, leads who want a quick architecture overview of agent-written code, and solo builders who'd like a free first-pass security sweep. It costs nothing beyond the model usage on the plan you already have.
