Super Micro Computer reported net sales of $19.9 billion for its fiscal first quarter (July to September 2026) on November 3. That is nearly four times the $5.0 billion it booked a year earlier and up from $11.1 billion last quarter. The company also raised its fiscal 2027 revenue forecast to $72–82 billion, from $65–72 billion.
Why it matters: Super Micro builds the racks that turn Nvidia and AMD accelerators into working AI clusters. Its numbers are a direct read on how fast AI hardware is actually getting installed. This quarter they say demand is still accelerating. They also show what that growth costs a hardware assembler: thinner margins, negative cash flow and heavy dependence on a very small number of buyers.
Note that the figures are preliminary and unaudited. The 8-K says they could change before the quarter is formally closed.

The beat was large. Super Micro's original guidance for this quarter was $14.5–15.5 billion. On October 20 it pre-announced $18.5–19.5 billion and came in above that range too. Earnings Whispers put the analyst consensus at $15.77 billion in revenue and $1.16 in non-GAAP EPS.
Part of the jump won't repeat. On the call, CFO Mark Long said about $2.3 billion was catch-up revenue from deployments originally scheduled for earlier quarters. That puts underlying sales nearer $17.6 billion. Long said the new full-year range doesn't assume the catch-up happens again.
What's driving it
AI products were about 71% of revenue, up from 59% the quarter before. Sales to OEMs and large data centers were $14.7 billion, about 74% of the total. The US accounted for 80%.
CEO Charles Liang said the company is "among the first to market shipping NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 racks," built on its liquid-cooled rack platform. He also cited strong demand for AMD's MI350 and MI355X and said AMD Helios and MI450 systems are coming. Liang said Super Micro is targeting capacity of more than 8,000 racks a month by December, including over 4,000 direct-liquid-cooled racks.
The three things to watch
1. One customer is 44% of revenue. Long said a single large data center customer accounted for 44% of Q1 sales, up from 28% for all of fiscal 2026. Two customers held 49% and 17% of accounts receivable. Long said he expects concentration to stay elevated while those build-outs continue. Super Micro did not name the customer.
2. Margins are compressing as AI grows. GAAP gross margin fell from 17.5% to 12.7% in one quarter, which the company attributed to AI mix. Guidance for the full year is 11.8–12.2%, implying a weaker second half as AI rises toward the 70–80% of revenue management expects. Earnings Whispers notes non-GAAP operating margin fell to 10.9% from 14.3%.
3. Growth is consuming cash. Operations used $434 million, and free cash flow was about –$481 million after capital spending. Inventory rose to $15.1 billion from $12.9 billion. Cash ended at $6.9 billion against $8.6 billion of bank debt and convertible notes, so net debt widened to $1.7 billion from $1.2 billion. Long said there are no current plans to raise equity. He pointed to a new $1.8 billion receivables purchase facility and about $3.1 billion of customer prepayments booked as deferred revenue.
Guidance
| Q2 FY27 guide | FY27 guide | |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | $19.5–21.5B | $72–82B (was $65–72B) |
| Gross margin | 12.0–12.5% | 11.8–12.2% |
| Non-GAAP EPS | $1.66–1.90 | — |
Earnings Whispers says Liang called the Q2 range "very conservative."
Who should care
If you're tracking the AI build-out, Super Micro's account is that Vera Rubin-generation racks are already shipping and that demand hasn't paused (management cited a record backlog but gave no dollar figure). If you're looking at Super Micro itself, the story is less simple. About 70% of its business is now low-margin AI hardware, and nearly three-quarters goes to OEMs and large data center operators. When one customer's build-out slows, the whole company feels it. Watch the audited 10-Q for any changes to these preliminary figures. Also watch whether gross margin holds in the 12% range and whether operating cash flow turns positive as the inventory built for this quarter ships.
