After years of insisting Macs didn't need touch, Apple shipped one. The headline of this week's launches is an OLED MacBook Pro with a touchscreen — the first Mac with either — alongside quieter M6 updates. Pre-orders opened October 28; everything arrives November 6.
OLED MacBook Pro: the one that matters
- Display: OLED with touch support — a first for any Mac.
- Chips: M5 Pro and M5 Max (introduced earlier this year).
- Design: slightly thinner and lighter than the mini-LED MacBook Pros, which stay on sale.
- New bits: a Dynamic Island, a glowing Apple logo on the lid, and a reworked speaker system with deeper bass and better audio with the lid closed.
- Storage: up to 16TB, double the previous ceiling.
- Price: a $400 premium over the equivalent mini-LED configuration. Fully loaded, it tops out at $14,549.
Our read: the $400 OLED tax buys perfect blacks, touch and a slimmer chassis — but the processors are the same M5 Pro/Max you can already get in the mini-LED model. If you don't specifically want touch or OLED, the mini-LED version is the value pick, and it'll likely see discounts now that it's no longer the flagship.
14-inch MacBook Pro (M6)
A straightforward spec bump to the new M6 chip, starting at $1,999 with 16GB of memory, a 1TB SSD and a 12-core CPU and GPU. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 come standard.
One caveat buried in the specs: the M6's 170GB/s memory bandwidth doesn't apply to the base 16GB configuration. If you run local AI models or heavy creative workloads, bandwidth matters as much as RAM capacity — check the configuration before you buy.
iMac (M6)
Also an M6 spec bump, starting at $1,499 with a 4.5K display and 256GB of storage; the $1,699 tier adds more cores, more ports and external display support. A 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port is available on the power adapter. Colors are unchanged.
Our read: skip the $1,499 base model if you can. 256GB fills fast, and the $1,699 tier fixes the ports you'll want.
Everything else from the week
- Mac Studio (M5 Ultra) is now configurable with 512GB of RAM — for $22,299.
- Redesigned Mac chargers and a World Travel Adapter Kit.
- MacBook Neo's education price rose to $649.
- Apple raised trade-in values for iPads and Macs.
- A new OLED iPad mini — we break that one down separately.
