RedMagic 12 Pro goes global from $949: 8,400mAh battery, 185Hz OLED — and slower charging than in China

RedMagic's gaming phone launched worldwide today with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and liquid cooling. US buyers pay more than the rumored $899, and the global model ships with 80W charging instead of China's 120W.

RedMagic launched the 12 Pro worldwide today, November 3, starting at $949 / £799 / €899 in the US, UK and Europe, according to Notebookcheck and T3. It's the global version of the 12 Pro+ that RedMagic released in China, built around Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, an 8,400mAh battery and a built-in fan-and-liquid cooling loop.

Why it matters: it brings Qualcomm's newest top-tier chip to a phone built for sustained gaming, and pre-launch reports had settled on a $899 price. That number turned out to be only part of the story — and the global model loses some of the Chinese version's headline specs.

Prices and dates

Configuration US UK EU
12GB + 256GB $949 £799 €899
16GB + 512GB $1,049 £889 €999
16GB + 1TB $1,199 £1,059 €1,199

Prices as reported by Notebookcheck.

Gogi, which tracked RedMagic's regional stores, reports that the "global" store lists the two lower tiers $50 cheaper ($899 and $999) than the North American store, while the 1TB model is $1,199 in both. So the $899 figure that circulated before launch exists — just not for US buyers.

The schedule, per Notebookcheck and Gogi:

  • Nov 12–17: early-bird vouchers; buyers get a free 80W charger
  • Nov 17: early-bird pre-orders open on RedMagic's store
  • Nov 18: open sales

Shattered notes the RedMagic 11 Pro's listed global launch price was $699. If that's the comparison, the US entry price is up $250.

The specs

  • Chip: Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 plus RedMagic's own R5 gaming chip; RedMagic's launch page lists a 2nm process and CPU cores up to 5GHz
  • Display: 6.85-inch 1.5K OLED (2,688 x 1,216), up to 185Hz in games, 1,900 nits full-screen and 5,000 nits peak HDR, per Notebookcheck
  • No notch or hole: a 16MP under-display selfie camera
  • Battery: 8,400mAh, with 80W wired charging and, per Notebookcheck, 80W wireless
  • Rear cameras: 50MP f/1.9 main (with OIS, per Gogi) and 50MP f/2.0 ultrawide
  • Cooling: what RedMagic calls dual-loop liquid cooling — a turbo fan, vapor chamber and liquid metal — with RGB lighting; Gogi puts the fan at 25,500 RPM
  • Build: 8.5mm thick, flat metal frame, IP69, touch-sensitive shoulder triggers
  • Software: RedMagic OS 12 on Android 17, with PC and Steam games available through its Game Space hub

The fine print

Charging and triggers are downgraded. The China launch advertised 120W wired charging; the global 12 Pro gets 80W, according to Notebookcheck. Gogi also reports the shoulder triggers sample at 520Hz globally versus 700Hz in China.

IP69 doesn't cover everything. T3 says the body is IP69-rated but the cooling system is only rated IPX8.

Early software is rough. T3's Rik Henderson used the phone ahead of launch (an early hands-on, not a full review). He found it thinner and lighter than the 11 Pro, got more than a day of battery from normal use, and called it "highly impressive" for gaming. But he also hit frequent crashes in Red Dead Redemption, "flakey" compatibility with the GameHub and DroidDeck emulators — which he puts down to the brand-new chipset — and selfies that are soft and short on detail. Cameras, he notes, aren't RedMagic's priority.

Who should care

If you want the most gaming performance per dollar on Android and don't mind a 6.85-inch phone with a fan in it, the 12 Pro looks like a serious option — but it's no longer the bargain it once was. Wait for full reviews after the November 18 release and early software updates before ordering, and if you're outside North America, compare the global store price, which may be $50 lower.
